Top 10 Tuesday: Boston Lunch Spots

This post has been updated as of June 4th, 2019

Lunch is a great part of the day. Possibly the best. (Haha). Working in Boston means that I have an endless amount of choices for when I don’t bring my lunch. Unfortunately, I try to save my money and bring lunch most days, but once a week I allow myself to indulge. This weeks edition of top 10 Tuesday will focus on my favorite lunch spots in the Back Bay area. In no particular order.

Sushi plate

1. Douzo

Thanks to my boss, I have a new found love for raw salmon. Never thought I’d see the day where I would say that. Douzo, located at 131 Dartmouth St, is a great choice for sushi lovers, or if you aren’t too keen on that, they have a great chicken teriyaki dish, among other things, as well!

Unfortunately my chopstick skills are severely lacking, but hey, guess I’ll just have to go back and practice some more!

2. Juice Press

I love me a good smoothie, especially when they are dairy free and only 100-200 calories. I try to eat as healthy as possible, and being lactose intolerant, avoid dairy like it’s the plague. Unfortunately, I love cheese so this is kind of tough, but the Juice Press has delicious dairy free drinks, so yay me! (Yes, I am aware cheese doesn’t go in smoothies, but you know milk and all that fun stuff.)

3. Gre.Co

As someone with a strong Greek heritage, how can this Greek spot not be on the list. Another gem introduced to me by a coworker, thanks Kate! I highly recommend the chicken plate with zucchini chips. To die for. Greek cuisine doesn’t seem to be as abundant as other types, but thankfully I am close enough to this place I can get it fairly often!

4. Thai Basil

I am obsessed with the Thai Basil Lo Mein, but honestly everything looked amazing. Itching to get back there ASAP, but not sure I’ll be able to stray from the Thai Basil Lo Mein…. guess we will see.

CAVA is another Greek spot coworkers introduced me to, seriously you guys are the best.

This place is neat because you pretty much have free rein with your meal. You can build your own bowl with a salad base, grain base or both! Also, those pita chips are AMAZEBALLS.

6. Flour

My favorite thing from Flour is from the drink menu actually. Raspberry Seltzer. This drink is the epitome of summer. The flavor and the carbonation make the perfect combination to jump start your taste buds and leave you refreshed. As for the food, you really can’t go wrong with anything on this menu, but I am partial to the grilled cauliflower sandwich.

7. Formaggio

I don’t know how I could have forgotten my FAVE sandwich place in Boston’s South End. I went back today, June 4th, 2019, for the first time since 2017. I interned down the street from them back in ’17 and yes, the sandwich was as good, if not better, than I recall. My go-to order is the Turkey Avocado, which is turkey (duh), swiss cheese, red onions, avocado, and chipotle mayonnaise and a Spindrift grapefruit sparkling water. I should probably branch out and try something new… but what can I say? I’m a creature of habit.

My absolute favorite sandwich. Hands down. Ever.

8. Dig Inn

So I recently tried Dig Inn for the first time… Not sure how I managed to go this long without?! Thank goodness I finally got to it, because let me tell you, that was delicious. I went with a bowl with no base, cauliflower with garlic and parmesan, roasted sweet potatoes, charred broccoli with lemon and herb roasted chicken. One of the BEST lunches I have had in a while. Bonus points for being healthy AF.

9. TBD

10. B.Good

Ok, ok, I know this place can be found pretty much anywhere, BUT that doesn’t mean it isn’t worthy of this list. Last week I got the zucchini noodles and eggplant meatball meal TWICE. I do not regret it one bit. With a base of kale, the zucchini noodles with red gravy, egg plant meatballs and parmesan cheese work together to create a wonderful experience of flavors.

Unfortunately, this list ends at 9 because I haven’t come across any others that I deem worthy enough for the top 10 list. That being said, I have plenty of other places to try, so I will certainly update this list with the last three as I find them. For now, this top 10 is a top 9.

What are your favorite restaurants in Boston’s Back Bay area? I still have one slot to fill, so go ahead and share your faves in the comments below!
